About Santa Barbara
Santa Barbara is in southern California near Los Angeles. On this stretch of the Pacific Coast, most beaches face south instead of west. At Goleta Beach, there are great restaurants, fishing and picnic facilities, and volleyball courts. North of Goleta is Gaviota Beach State Park, with a long tall fishing pier.
The long stretch of beach at El Capitan State Park is often visited by dolphins, and a few miles farther up the coast is Refugio Beach State Park. The private Butterfly Beach sits in an upscale area, facing west for a great sunset. Carpinteria State Beach allows camping on the shore.
Between the breakwater and Shoreline Park, busy Leadbetter Beach is a surfing, catamaran, and windsurfing mecca with frequent group events. Hendry's Beach provides good amenities even as it lacks parking, the official name being Arroyo Burro Beach. Hendry's is secluded by a curving coast line and towering cliffs, where hang-gliders are often launched.
East Beach is close to it all, after enjoying the beach it is an easy walk to the zoo, shops, and restaurants. Visitors can rent rollerblades at East Beach, and West Beach is the place for sporting events. Most beaches in Santa Barbara are packed on weekends, so residents try to get there early.
